Last month while on a family holiday in New Zealand I had the pleasure of doing another training course to further my skills as a Pilates teacher, this course was taught by the amazing Aimee Challies.
It was a Barre course through the Garuda Method which is an exercise method that is a fusion of Yoga & Pilates.
I have been admiring the Garuda Method and the work of Aimee for a while now so it was a dream come true to do the training in my homeland of NZ. Luckily for me my Mum was available to look after Tully, our ( almost ) one year old Son.
The course was perfect timing for my personal and professional development, having had an emergency caesarean I throughly enjoyed the challenge of learning new material, also for my wonderful new job at Core Studio in Byron Bay, Australia. It gives me the chance to challenge my clients with new and exciting movements.
The Barre course is all in standing so it really allows a range of people to benefit from the exercises, really great for elderly to have the assistance of a Barre to hold onto and also for injured or rehabilitating clients. Also any one wanting to get more mobile, strong and lengthen the body. The Barre is used to create space by pushing and pulling on the Barre to give feedback, mostly with the hands.
After the course I totally felt amazing in my body and an old nagging neck injury just disappeared, ha ha if only I could do 4 hours training every day!
I absolutely love my job as a Pilates teacher, especially helping people to feel great in their bodies.
I wanted to share some focus points from my training –
” We only have one body and it is our own responsibility to bring out the best in it”
” Each of us have a different moving architecture. We have to respect that”
” The consistent change of a set of movement patterns and dynamism encourage proprioception and an active mind, subsequently developing a quiet confidence”
GARUDA creates a sense of who you are, what you are capable of and most importantly provides the key to becoming who you want to be within your body.
